Decades ago:
We were all Sebastian Dangerfield, on the road with some dangerous fellas from TCD;
byways through Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Galway and up into Mayo.
We were well battered and memory is blurred but it’s possible that the Gardaí encouraged
our return from Achill to Dublin. . .
Anyway, that’s where and when the Irish music took hold and we’ve been hooked ever more.
Some of our best gigs have wanted the best of Celtic music and the Guinness on tap and we’ve run the full gamut of polkas, slip jigs, slides, reels and Dublin punk singalongs, but not the laments (even if the old fella was keen to perform his Sean-nós).
If you want an Irish colour to the evening, one of the great advantages of the music is that it invariably reaches the spot, whether its background, cavorting or slow and thoughtful before the final half-hour to the finish.
